A relic from Cardassian inhabitation of Bajor, Deep Space 9 was virtually derilict, and wrecked, before the Federation arrived. Now, since the discovery of the near-by wormhole, it has been transformed into a bustling trading establishment, as well as a gambling one due to the shop "Quark's". The wormhole also brought the bad into the Alpha Quadrent; the Dominion, and most of the 7-year span of Deep Space Nine is spent between fighting these, and becoming aquainted with the Prophets; the Bajoran Gods. We see Benjamin Sisco, Commander of DS9, battle himself, both with the truth from the Prophets, and his actions to preserve the Federation from the threat coming from the Gamma Quadrent.
